Sasol Performance Chemical’s MARLIPAL O13 Alcohol is a high purity, petrochemical-based branched alcohol having an average carbon chain length of 13. MARLIPAL O13 Alcohol is based on a C12-olefin, which is prepared by the trimerization of n-butene. The hydroformylation (oxo synthesis) of the olefin with carbon monoxide and hydrogen produces an isomeric mixture of primary isotridecyl alcohols with a branched alkyl chain. MARLIPAL O13 Alcohol does not contain alcohols with carbon chain lengths of 11 or 12. In contrast to an isotridecyl alcohol based on propylene, MARLIPAL O13 Alcohol and its derivatives have a unique, significantly milder odor which enhances their product quality. MARLIPAL O13 Alcohol and its derivatives display better wetting, flow, and liquidity properties than similar molecular weight linear alcohols.
